At Solitaire Farm we are home to one of the largest herds of pedigree Hampshire pigs in the United Kingdom. The Hampshire is a modern and extremely productive pig with fast growing piglets that are ideal for breeding pure bred, or for cross breeding.
As we have found, the Hampshire will maximise your herd’s performance when used as part of a crossing programme. As with all the breeds at Solitaire Farm, our Hampshire pigs have been selected for growth and high lean meat yields, with exceptional taste and quality.
We selectively breed for:
• Maximum heterosis in progeny i.e. when our Hampshires are used in cross breeding programmes, we select for those pigs that will be most successful at realising high hybrid vigour from that mix of genetics
• Robust piglets with superior rearing viability
• Excellent growth rate and feed efficiency
• Superior meat quality
• Optimum lean growth and primal yield
• High killing out % and carcase yields
